An Apology for Always Replying Late on Medium
I sometimes do that on other platforms as well, but today we’re focusing solely on Medium
When I joined Medium over a year ago I published every alternate day, obsessed over my stats, checked my earnings every day. And I always replied instantly. But as time passed the novelty wore off. Medium became more of a chore than an escape. And almost two hundred articles later, I find myself spending less and less time on the platform.
I log in, of course. I still have things to say, thoughts to pour out. And people seem to generally enjoy what I write, so there’s that. I’m not done with Medium by any stretch of the imagination. But yeah. It doesn’t feel as enchanting and full of possibilities as before.
As a result, I log in to Medium perhaps once every three days now. Sometimes earlier, sometimes later. A side effect is I don’t check my notifications until they’ve piled up for days. Today, for instance, I found I had a whopping hundred-and-five notifications waiting for me.
Thus I don’t usually see comments and private notes until half a week has passed. I realize this article is a tad self-indulgent; nobody is waiting by their laptop for Chandrayan Gupta to reply to their comment. But it’s common courtesy to respond within a day, and I…
