Holy cow, I've finally found someone more jaded than I am! Nice to meet you.

It's no secret that human beings need constant sedation in the form of entertainment and their small social bubbles in order to not be overwhelmed by the tragedies of the world. I myself get much more depressed if I start thinking of those less fortunate than me.

But there's hope. There has to be, or else humanity itself becomes pointless. After all, if nothing means anything, then we should let go of everything. Our entire world order would collapse. There'd be chaos for years and decades to come. That's no way to live.

Glimpses of hope can be seen everywhere. In India, a group of Muslims banded together to protect a Hindu temple from being ransacked. During nationwide protests against a piece of legislation in our country, there were reports of one man serving water and refreshments in one city to protestors camped out under a scorching sun. Yes, I know people who'd happily kick a baby, but I also people who remind me why I still have a small glimmer of hope in humanity, and they ask for nothing in return. There's still hope.

P.S. it's dangerous to assume that those who're truly suicidal never talk about it. It's less common, but it does happen. Take it from someone who knows, suicide ideation can turn into active suicide ideation very, very quickly.
