Just read the article. 'The author said their words could be altered after their death"? I'm an author. I get triggered if publications make alterations to my articles without telling me, which, thankfully, has happened only once. The handful of times publications wanted changes made, they told me, and I made them. It's a matter of principle; you ask the author, and changes are made only if they agree. If they don't, they're free to take their work elsewhere ("piss off", is what I believe the kids say :P). I find it incredibly tough to believe any (like you said) self-respecting author would willingly allow their works to be altered post-death, or in any other situation where their permission is not taken.
PS. how have you written so many books? I feel exhausted after four.
