Introduction: The Effects of Hailing from a Religious Country

Over the past two years I have settled into a pattern on this platform. My readers (thank you so much to each of you) know what to expect. I write primarily about mental health and books, with occasional forays into productivity, lifestyle, and entertainment. My articles are fairly lengthy, personal, and aimed to inform, express myself, and secure a boost.

With this article I am deviating from that MO. This piece is aimed solely at expressing a personal opinion and due to the sensitivity of the subject I am neither expecting nor daring to hope for a boost. I expect few will even read this. All I want today is to express an unpopular opinion I have held for several years.

I hail from India, which you might be aware is a deeply religious country. Religion is ingrained in our culture. While our Constitution declares us a secular country, and a number of religions are practised here (such as Islam, Christianity, Sikhism…
