My family has a history of mood disorders, and I myself fell for the... wrong kind of women, let's say? Twice I fell in love, and twice it turned out they were toxic, compulsive liars. So it's a combination of both of these factors. But given that I have episodes even now, when I've gotten over a lot of the resultant trust issues, I'd say genetics is the bigger factor. I THINK.
