I abhor discussing politics. In fact, I believe this is the first political article I have written. The reasons are multifarious: I am afraid of making an incorrect statement, I prefer not to step in the nuclear quagmire that is world politics, I prefer not to opine on matters concerning other countries, I would rather not go back and forth with toxic trolls on the internet who never respond using logic and instead obfuscate through whataboutism.

But there comes a time when we must throw caution to the wind and speak our mind, whatever the consequences. For me, that time has now arrived.

Over the past week, there have been two straws that broke the camel’s back:

  • As reported in CNN and the BBC on September 16, a United Nations inquiry has found Israel has committed genocide in Gaza, fulfilling four of the five criteria under international law: ‘killing members of a group, causing them serious bodily and mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions calculated to destroy the group, and preventing births’. This follows Amnesty International’s report in 2024 that also concluded Israel had been committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.
